Assistant Accountant
Location: East Sussex
Job Type: Temporary (3 months)
We are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our finance team on a 3-month temporary contract. The successful candidate will support our accounting operations by performing routine tasks, such as reconciling bank statements, preparing journal entries, and assisting with month-end closing processes. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with a solid foundation in accounting principles and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Day-to-day of the role:
- Assist with the preparation of financial statements and documents.
- Conduct bank reconciliations and reconcile financial discrepancies by collecting and analysing account information.
- Support the month-end and year-end close process.
- Prepare journal entries and maintain the general ledger.
- Assist with budget preparation and budget tracking.
- Help with tax computations and returns.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable.
- Assist in the preparation of VAT returns.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
- Liaise with our financial team and accountants to improve financial procedures.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proven experience as an Assistant Accountant or relevant role.
- Understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices.
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software (e.g., SAP).
- Qualifications (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) is a plus but not necessary.
- Excellent organizing abilities.
- Great attention to detail.
- Good with numbers and figures.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Teamworking skills.
