A permanent opportunity for an experienced Assistant Accountant has arisen for a successful and highly regarded Environmental Services organisation in Stoke.

The Role:
As an Assistant Accountant, you will be working closely with the Financial Controller and will be undertaking a range of responsibilities including:
- Overseeing purchase ledger control, sales ledger, reconciliations, credit control, and expense processing, resolving payment issues.
- Preparing and posting purchase invoices
- Raising and checking sales invoices for discrepancies
- Produce weekly / fortnightly payment runs for review
- Preparing monthly and year-end financial reports and reconciliations including entry of sales data from trackers to Sage
- Maintaining an effective and rigid structure to your day to day processes, and ensure all relevant personnel are following procedure correctly
- Handling base accounting tasks, and maintaining fixed assets register, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations etc.
- Assisting in producing monthly management reports with full P+L and balance sheet responsibilities
- Ensuring month end cut off dates are adhered to and regional financial reports are closed off effectively
- Getting verification and approval for all purchase invoices
- Monitoring cash flow and working capital, performing bank reconciliations, and generating short-term cash flow forecasts.
- Ensuring accuracy and timely submission of external regulatory financial information and returns (VAT, PAYE, Corporation Tax)
- Preparing financial statements and maintaining general ledger entries.
- Overseeing payroll processing and related tasks.
- Ensuring compliance with accounting principles, regulations, and company policies.
- Providing office/administrative support, ensuring the smooth running of the business.
- Collaborating with directors and operations to promote financial best practices.
Candidate Requirements:
- The candidate will ideally be AAT qualified
- Experience of CIS deductions and VAT recharges
- Proficiency in accounting software including Sage and Microsoft Excel
- Experience of working with trackers to pull and record data accurately
- Have an eye for detail especially around reconciliations and processing tasks
- Have a strong understanding of day to day accounts principles
- Possess excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Be able to deliver a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Have the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
- Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills with both financial and non-financial colleagues and customers alike
Information:
- Salary of 28,000 to 32,000 per annum (depending on experience)
- Permanent position (subject to successful completion of probationary period)
- Based in the ST5 area of Stoke on Trent
