Job Title: Principal Building Control Surveyor
Location: North Northamptonshire
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Principal Building Control Surveyor to join our Regulatory Services team. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with building regulations and promoting high-quality construction standards within our district.
Responsibilities:
- Manage the day-to-day control of building work within the district, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.
- Act as the lead contact for major and complex projects, overseeing plans examination, site inspections, and enforcement activities.
- Check plans and notices for compliance with building regulations, preparing necessary documentation for amendments.
- Liaise with stakeholders including architects, surveyors, engineers, and contractors to discuss plans, notices, and other related matters.
- Conduct on-site inspections to ensure adherence to approved plans and regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the development of the service, exploring opportunities to increase market share and develop additional revenue streams.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on building regulations and construction matters to both internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborate with other departments within the organization to ensure cross-departmental compliance and coordination.
- Stay abreast of changes in regulatory requirements and industry standards, contributing to the continuous improvement of our services.
Requirements:
- Membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, or substantial experience in local authority Building Control.
- Thorough working knowledge of building regulations and allied legislation.
- Experience in additional functions such as dangerous structures and demolitions is desirable.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to negotiate and persuade effectively.
- Proficiency in using a range of ICT systems, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Comfortable working in both office and construction site environments.
- Valid driving license and access to a vehicle for work-related travel.
