An experienced Cloud Data Engineering Manager with at least 2-3 years of managing data engineering experience is needed to join the team at this rapidly growing Data Analytics Consultancy based in Oxford. 

You will be excited to play a pivotal role in leading their cloud engineering efforts, driving strategic initiatives, and ensuring the successful delivery of cutting-edge cloud solutions to their clients.

Founded in 2014 and based in Oxford, UK, this dynamic analytical consultancy specialises in data analysis, statistical modelling, and various analytical techniques like BI and Risk Management. They provide businesses with custom, secure solutions, primarily working in the cloud with AWS and GCP to process and analyse large volumes of client data.

About the Role

They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Cloud Data Engineering Manager to manage their data engineering team in designing, implementing, and maintaining scalable cloud-based data solutions tailored to meet their clients' needs and requirements. They are specifically looking for expertise in AWS and GCP.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a team of data engineers, setting priorities and fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement in partnership with the Project Manager and project delivery team while driving initiatives to optimise data engineering processes
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement scalable and reliable data platforms on cloud infrastructure, ensuring data integrity through governance policies and supporting continuous delivery of data solutions
  • Define and execute the data engineering strategy in alignment with the CTO and leadership team, acting as a subject matter expert in cloud technologies and data architecture
  • Build strong relationships with clients by understanding their business objectives and translating them into technical data solutions, serving as a trusted advisor to ensure value delivery
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders, promoting data-driven decision-making and effectively managing client expectations and project outcomes

Required Experience:

  • Demonstrable experience (2-3+ years) in managing/leading data engineering teams, focused on cloud-based solutions, providing guidance, mentorship, and fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment
  • Expertise in the following cloud platforms: AWS and GCP, and proficiency in cloud-native data services (e.g., S3, Athena, Lambda, Glue)
  • Advanced working knowledge in programming languages - specifically Python
  • Hands-on experience in data pipeline development using tools such as AWS Glue
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to all stakeholders (non-technical and technical)
  • Experience working closely with clients to understand their business objectives, challenges, and data-related requirements in order to deliver value-add solutions
  • DevOps and continuous delivery experience (automation, monitoring, logging, auditing) 

Desirable Experience:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
  • Domain knowledge of common information security management frameworks and regulatory requirements and applicable standards such as ISO 27001
  • Experience in using modern data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake and Iceberg
  • Certifications in cloud platforms and/or data engineering (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Google Professional Data Engineer) are a plus
