  • Key responsibilities include management of a small team of Design Engineers, delivery of designs, production of technical documentation, leading engineering analyses, and providing technical support for nuclear process assets.

Techniche Global are supporting an engineering defence contractor to appoint a Senior Design Engineer responsible for the development and design of process facilities related to submarines at HM Naval Base Devonport. This includes nuclear process plant equipment including pressure and pipe systems.

Rate:                     up to £70p/hr UMB- inside IR35Location:               Devonport, Plymouth – hybrid (1-2 days at the office/ 3 days WFH)Duration:               6 months initiallyRequirements:        eligible for SC Clearance  Key responsibilities:
  • Management and development of a small team of Design Engineers
  • Development and delivery of designs in accordance with the design process (Start-up, Concept, Scheme, Detailed and Implementation phases)
  • Managing the production, checking and approval of technical documentation and drawings
  • Leading engineering analyses including calculations, component structural analysis and system fluid flow simulation/analysis
  • Ensuring compliance with nuclear site licence conditions, statutory legislation and design codes/standards
  • Providing through-life technical support for nuclear process assets
  • Estimating, prioritising and producing work schedules/project programmes
 Required Knowledge, Skills,   Experience and CompetencesRequired:
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering principles for the design, operation and maintenance of pressure/pipework systems
  • Knowledge of the design lifecycle
  • Knowledge of the general regulations, legislation and standards that are applicable to nuclear process and pressure system design
  • Knowledge of project specification, planning and budgeting
  And, technical experience with one or more of the following:
  • Pressure systems
  • Computer aided design
  • Component engineering simulation
  • System fluid flow analysis
  • Nuclear plant design
