We are now recruiting for a Production Automation Engineer to continually develop efficient manufacturing processes through applying automation and lean and continuous improvement methodology, whilst targeting quality improvements, product cost reduction and applying Health & Safety best practice!

In addition to this as our Production Automation Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Identification of new opportunities for automation within the existing manufacturing process.
  • Designing new automation equipment or processes.
  • Simulating and testing these processes or equipment to ensure they function as desired.
  • Programming new automated components to the manufacturing process.
  • Developing and maintaining clear and accurate documentation of automation equipment or processes.
  • Provide training on automation systems operation, typically after implementing new processes or equipment or making changes to existing ones.
  • Troubleshoot automated processes or equipment when errors occur.
  • Support with, and make improvements to, a wide range of production techniques for automated machining and assembly of components, including CNC machining, component assembly, cleaning, and metrology.
  • Design automation work cells for handling, inspection and assembly of components.
  • Create and test programs for automation cells using PLC's and other native programming languages.
  • Provide detailed analysis and testing of existing and new engineering solutions and components.
  • Assist the production team with their day-to-day production requirements by providing them with technical assistance and problem-solving solutions.
  • Identify defective processes that require a cross-functional team to review.
  • Maintain and apply lean principles to the automation environment.
  • Provide detailed manufacturing standard operating procedures.
  • Monitor production output through utilisation, OEE and machine uptime reports. Analyse data and trends to implement improvement actions to work towards 'world-class' productivity.
  • Check, verify, and sign off work completed by other team members as appropriate, providing mentorship if required.
  • Identify new machinery and equipment requirements by assessing the needs of the business and researching alternative options and providers.
  • Prepare and lead internal projects for the procurement of new equipment.
  • Liaise with the design engineering department, reviewing new products before they are released into production.
  • Conduct PFMEA's to ensure that all designs are fit for automated manufacture at the most efficient cost.

In order to be successful in this role you must have / be:

  • Qualified to HNC level or actively working towards completion of a similar Mechanical, Electrical or Automation Engineering qualification with demonstrable experience working in an engineering-based role.
  • Possess a sound understanding of modern automation systems.
  • Able to demonstrate a thorough understanding and experience of quality, safety, maintenance, and automation systems.
  • Demonstrable experience in designing and developing new automation solutions.
  • Able to understand H&S requirements relating to automation systems.
  • Able to build strong relationships and gain the respect of both internal and external customers.
  • Able to demonstrate a positive attitude and work calmly under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexible with the ability to work to deadlines and the determination to see a job through to a satisfactory conclusion.
  • PC Literate, specifically in PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, Project, and Excel
  • Excellent organisational and planning skills.
  • Good strong team player with the ability to influence others.

It would be great if you had:

  • Demonstrable ability to evaluate processes through capability studies and equipment reviews.
  • The ability to design jigs and fixtures using CAD (preferably 3D).
  • Demonstrable experience in the use of Continuous Improvement tools and techniques e.g., VSM, SMED, TPM, Kaizen, 5S, Error proofing etc.
  • Conversant with Design for manufacture (DFM), Lean Manufacture Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE)
  • Articulate presentation and communication skills both written and verbal.
