Automation Manager

Are you an experienced Automation Manager looking for a new challenge? This company is a market-leading FMCG business based in South Wales, As an Automation Manager, you will lead the automation strategy with expertise in both Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Information Technology (IT) systems to lead our automation efforts at our manufacturing plant. You will be responsible for managing a team of automation engineers, overseeing the integration of PLC and IT systems, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to optimise production processes.

Here's what you'll be doing:
  • Developing and executing a comprehensive automation strategy aligned with the company's business objectives, with a particular emphasis on leveraging PLC and IT systems to optimise production workflows, improve product quality and drive cost efficiency's
  • Leading the evaluation, selection and implementation of PLC-based automation solutions, including SCADA systems, HMI interfaces and data acquisition tools to automate and control various aspects of rice manufacturing processes, from milling to packaging
  • Overseeing the design, deployment and maintenance of IT systems supporting automation initiatives, including manufacturing execution systems (MES), data management platforms and connectivity solutions to ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure and drive real-time insights into production performance
  • Collaborating closely with engineering, operations, IT and other departments to identify automation opportunities, define project requirements and facilitate the successful deployment of PLC and IT-based solutions across the business
  • Building and leading a multi-disciplinary team of automation engineers, providing direction, mentorship and support to drive innovation, foster collaboration and ensure the timely and successful execution of automation projects
The skills and experience you'll bring to the team:
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Automation, or related field
  • PLC certified training with an OEM
  • Strong technical expertise in PLC programming, control systems design, industrial networking and IT infrastructure management, with proficiency in relevant software tools and programming languages (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley, Wonderware)
  • Manufacturing Automation Specialist with 5+ years' experience
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, safety standards and quality management systems applicable to automation in food manufacturing environments (e.g., FDA, HACCP, ISO)
