Our client is currently seeking an experienced Legal Secretary / Assistant specialising in Commercial Property or Residential Conveyancing. This proactive role presents an excellent opportunity to join an established team in Preston. The successful candidate will work closely with our Fee Earners, contributing to a dynamic and collaborative environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF A LEGAL ASSISTANT:

  • Providing support to the Property Lawyers
  • Liaising with clients and other professional in a courteous and helpful manner
  • Relationship building with 3rd parties, proactively progressing matters, confidently liaising with third parties
  • Handling first-line client queries
  • Arranging practical aspects relating to casework
  • Taking ownership in the drafting and submissions of Land Registry Applications and Stamp Duty returns alongside the file handler.
  • Undertaking due diligence and research
  • Preparing complex reports for lawyers as required;
  • Attending upon clients for administrative matters
  • Attending meetings for note-taking
  • Diary management
  • Preparation of complex documentation
  • Preparing client care letters, terms and conditions and ensuring all templates/precedents are up to date;
  • Proactively supporting lawyers in file reviews
  • Liaising with Risk and Compliance on Audit
  • Preparing bills and dealing with the financial aspects of the transaction/matter
  • Supporting lawyers in proactively managing WIP and aged debt
  • Assisting with risk and compliance elements associated with casework
  • Assuming a key role within the department to enhance client service efficiencies and ensuring the smooth running of the overall team
  • Updating external websites and portals on matters as and when required
  • Ensuring all file closing procedures are carried out at the end of the transaction and liaising with archiving for file closure.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

  • 6 -12 months experience in a legal assistant or comparable role (desirable)
  • Excellent organisational skills and a committed attitude
  • Am ability to communicate clearly and accurately to different 3rd parties
  • Use of initiative
  • Excellent telephone manner
  • Effective time management skills
  • Use your initiative and ability to work on multiple matters.
  • Proven experience working with a case management system
  • Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines
  • Proven experience in relevant area of law (desirable)
