Company Overview:

Reading Borough Council is seeking an experienced and dedicated Commercial Property Solicitor to join its Corporate Legal Team. Their Legal Services department serves the Council's needs across a wide range of functions, including providing legal advice and support to the Council’s Property and Assets Management team. Additionally, Reading hosts the Joint Legal Team, a recognised centre of excellence for childcare, adults, and education law.

About the Role:

This role is ideal for a Lawyer with a proven track record in dealing with commercial property matters relating to asset portfolio management and the public sector. You will play a crucial role in managing a diverse caseload and providing expert advice on all aspects of local authority land dealings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice and support on commercial property matters, particularly relating to asset portfolio management and all aspects of public sector land holdings, including development, sale, lease, and governance.
  • Support the Council's objectives by providing legal guidance aligned with commercial property strategies and policies, demonstrating a good understanding of local authority governance.
  • Deliver timely and effective legal services to the Council and its partners.
  • Identify opportunities for improvements in team systems and processes, contributing to ongoing enhancement in commercial property legal services.
  • Participate in service improvement initiatives, supporting the delivery of strategic and service objectives outlined in the Legal Services Strategy and Service Development Plan.

About You:

  • Be a fully qualified solicitor, barrister, or CILEX, with experience in commercial property law - Essential.
  • It is preferable that you have experience and a good understanding of local authority governance, along with the ability to provide advice on all aspects of local authority land dealings - Preferable.
  • Your track record should include dealing with commercial property law in the public sector. - Preferable.
