Our client has been transporting the most dangerous, delicate and difficult of consignments across the globe for over 25 years.

From their roots as a UK road courier company, they has progressed and expanded to become a specialist in global logistics for government and defence sectors, with services comprising road, air and sea freight transportation as well as 3PL, secure warehousing and screening services.

This is an opportunity to be instrumental in the growth of a highly successful specialised logistics company, leveraging their credibility and expertise to maintain and grow the footprint in Defence and Nuclear sectors.

The Key Account Director will be responsible for the success of our clients core strategic accounts, including operational, relationship and P&L accountability.

You’ll be seen as a key trusted adviser, helping solve their specialised logistics challenges, surpassing expectations and continually deepening the commercial relationships.

You’ll already have stellar relationships skills, be used to operating in complex environments and have a passion for customer success. You’ll now be able to deploy those skills in one of the most critical of sectors, thriving on the importance of what you’re managing and rising to the challenges that poses.

Responsibilities:

Operational

  • Developing a deep understanding of the client’s world and be the go-to person to solve logistics challenges
  • Own the day-to-day management of the account, overseeing all activity and ensuring the highest standards are met, and client satisfaction is exceptional
  • Act as the lynchpin between their world and ours, working closely with Operations and wider Leadership to ensure we’re continuing to exceed expectations, implementing internal gate reviews, processes and improvements where necessary
  • Take full P&L responsibility for the account, ensuring profitability, efficiency and positive commercial outcomes for you and the client
  • Architect, develop and undertake high quality monthly, quarterly and annual account-focused reviews, internally and externally, to make sure we’re always operating at the expected high level, and that the key stakeholders within the account see, appreciate and really value it
  • Be proactive in offering specialist advice, opinion and expertise so that you remain to be seen at the forefront of sensitive and complex logistics solutions

Growth

  • Produce and own the Account Development Plans, with clear annual and quarterly goals, enabling our footprint to grow, our relationship to be continually strengthened and we achieve our aim of becoming an ever-more important strategic partner
  • Implement activities and programmes as needed internally to help achieve your goals, working with SLT to build investment cases and developing innovations so We continue to progress
  • Actively seek new areas within the account for us to move into, opening up conversations with other departments/locations, using your existing relationships to accelerate new ones
  • Explore and develop valuable partner relationships where there could be mutual client benefit, and so ensuring we are appropriately part of the solution both directly and indirectly
  • Use and maintain our CRM tool, ensuring there’s one view of our commercial efforts and all the activities contributing to its success
  • Act like an owner - we are an entrepreneurial organisation that values initiative, drive, care and an unwavering passion to succeed

Expertise

  • Excellent knowledge of the logistics industry, 3PL and 4PL a plus
  • Experience in running large bid proposals and successful tenders
  • Strong project management skills
  • Outstanding communicator
  • Detailed orientated and analytical
  • Customer and results-focused withhigh levels of commercial acumen
  • Ability to organise and prioritise workloads to meet set deadlines
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure
  • Strong work ethic and ability to work with others areas in the business to achieve optimal outcomes
