What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Reading. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a new special school placement while they are waiting for it.

We tutor pupils of all ages face-to-face within school times and in a range of settings including homes, schools, community centres and out in the community. Our tuition is completely pupil-focused and can target developing early learning, following an academic curriculum, providing emotional support or developing life skills. We need a wide range of tutors to support our pupils to meet their specific needs and ensure good progress. We work very hard to match each tutor with pupils who can most benefit from their skills and expertise.

About The Pupil

ASEND is looking for an experienced tutor to support a 14-year-old pupil in his home in Reading. He has cerebral palsy and as a result is unable to express himself verbally, is visually impaired and unable to move around independently. Despite these challenges, he finds joy in music, lights, and touch. He communicates through vocalisations and facial expressions.

A tutor who has supported pupils with medical and genetic needs is needed to help develop his communication abilities, with sessions taking place both at home and in the community. Our young pupil needs someone who loves what they do, who has a compassionate and kind personality to be able to accommodate this young man’s needs and help him develop.

  • You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way

  • You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement

  • You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan

  • Ideally, have some experience in helping children with their learning

  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils

  • Use a person-centred approach in their work

  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do

  • Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.

Benefits:

  • Generous and competitive rates of pay

  • Opportunities for professional development

  • Friendly support and guidance to enable you to meet the individual needs of learners and to ensure that you feel confident in your position
