Vacancy: Platforms Operations Manager (6-month position)

Location: UK Flexible (with hybrid working)

Are you looking for your next Platform Operations Challenge?! In this position, you'll be leading a talented engineering team to keep our platforms running smoothly, safe, and up-to-date. Your main goal is to make sure everything works well, stays secure, and grows as our business does. You'll be working closely with everyone involved to come up with smart solutions that help us reach our goals. Plus, you'll be the one making sure everyone knows what's going on and can make the best decisions possible.

Johnson Matthey IT (JMIT) is Johnson Matthey's global IT function which is at the centre of the company's strategy to catalyse the net-zero transition. JMIT provides core operational IT services which power our business and are working in partnership with our business units to develop future technology and business services which will modernise and drive forward JM.

Your responsibilities:

  • Support Your Team: Provide guidance, coaching, and development opportunities to help your engineering team thrive in managing the platforms effectively.
  • Keep Things Secure: Implement and uphold strong security measures to protect our platforms from cyber threats and data breaches, ensuring they run smoothly and securely.
  • Design for Success: Lead the design, implementation, and upkeep of platform services, focusing on making them efficient, scalable, and aligned with our business objectives.
  • Collaborate and Solve: Work closely with various teams to understand their needs and develop solutions that scale and contribute to achieving our business goals.
  • Resource Management: Strategically allocate engineering resources to meet platform demands, ensuring smooth operations and keeping everything running smoothly.
  • Stay Transparent: Keep stakeholders informed about platform health, upcoming changes, and key metrics, promoting transparency and informed decision-making.
  • Manage Suppliers: Oversee supplier performance, ensuring they deliver quality work within agreed timelines to support our platform's success.
  • Optimize Costs: Continuously analyze platform costs and implement cost-saving measures without compromising performance or user experience.


Requirements for the role:

  • Leadership Skills: You should possess strong leadership skills to effectively guide and inspire your team in delivering high-quality operational and change services.
  • Team Development: Your ability to develop and mentor technical and functional experts will be crucial in fostering the development of a high performing team.
  • Budget Management: Proficiency in managing significant budgets for both operational and change initiatives is essential for resource allocation and financial efficiency.
  • Collaboration Skills: You should be skilled in matrix management structures and collaborative ways of working to promote synergy and coordination across teams.
  • Strategic Planning Abilities: Your capability to work with Enterprise and Solution Architecture teams to develop and maintain a platform roadmap aligned with organizational objectives will be vital.
  • Change Management Expertise: Experience in leading and managing people change programs is necessary to facilitate a smooth transition and foster a positive organizational culture.
