Your new companyHay Recruitment are proud to be supporting a mainstream primary school in Runcorn as they require an experienced and motivated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with ASD in Year 2 on a 1:1 basis. This is a long-term contract and the school have confirmed that they will need cover from September.Your new roleIn your new role, you will be working with a young boy in year 2 with autism on a 1:1 basis. You will be this students' main point of contact throughout the school day, meeting them at the school gate and walking them back to their parents/guardian at the end of the school day. Due to their needs, they can present challenging behaviours. To help manage these behaviours, you will effectively identify trigger points inside and outside of lessons, remove said triggers when possible and use distraction and de-escalation techniques to promote engagement. They are partially verbal, so phonics and speech and language will be a key focus area as well as offer intervention and boosters in core subjects. You will work with them on their EHCP and liaise with parents/guardians, teaching staff, SENCO and other professionals on their progress.What you'll need to succeedTo be considered for this role you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK as well as a minimum of 40 days referenceable experience working with children and young people in the last 2 years, as well as:

  • Previous experience supporting SEN (ideally caustic spectrum conditions/disorders)
  • An NVQ Level 2 or equivalent qualification in supporting teaching and learning is advantageous but not essential
