A Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in Halton is seeking a resilient, adaptable, and committed PRU Teacher to join their team as soon as possible. This is a challenging yet highly rewarding opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about re-engaging young people in education and supporting those who have experienced barriers to learning, including behavioural, emotional, and social difficulties.

About the Role
  • Teach a broad and flexible curriculum to students aged 11–16, often on a one-to-one or small group basis

  • Adapt teaching to meet the varied academic and emotional needs of learners

  • Foster a safe, consistent, and supportive learning environment

  • Manage behaviour positively, using de-escalation strategies and trauma-informed practice

  • Work closely with pastoral teams, families, and external agencies to support student progress

  • Contribute to personalised learning plans and pupil reintegration strategies

Candidate Requirements

Essential:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

  • Experience working in alternative provision, PRUs, or with students with SEMH needs

  • Strong classroom and behaviour management skills

  • Ability to build strong, trusting relationships with challenging learners

  • High levels of resilience, empathy, and emotional intelligence

Desirable:

  • Team Teach or equivalent de-escalation/restraint training

  • Experience supporting students at risk of exclusion or those with EHCPs

  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches and restorative practice

  • Ability to deliver core subjects or vocational learning pathways
