We have an exciting opportunity for experienced Data Governance Officers to joing South Yorkshire Police at their headquarters in Carbrook Sheffield.

This is a temporary role working Monday to Friday 37 hours a week and will be office based.

PLEASE NOTE DUE TO THE POLICE VETTING CRITERIA YOU MUST HAVE RESIDED WITHIN THE UK CONTINUOUSLY FOR AT LEAST 5 YEARS AT THE TIME OF APPLICATION, UNFORTUANTELY ANYTHING LESS THAN THIS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED OR CONTACTED.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:-

Under the Data Protection Act 2018, the role will support the Chief Constable and 'Information Asset Owners' to demonstration compliance with the Accountability Principle. Reporting to the Data Protection Officer the role includes compliance with the Data Sharing Code of Practice issued by the Information Commissioner, reviewing Data Processing Contracts and sharing agreements, supporting Data Owners with Data Protection Impact Assessments, embedding Data Protection by design and default, compliance with APP Information Management issued by the College of Policing and providing Data Protection training

Summary of main duties

The role will support data owners to share relevant information lawfully with partners for law enforcement purposes, support data owners to draft contracts with third party data processors, support with data access agreements, support data owners in completing Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIA) - making initial assessments and providing relevant advice, play an active role as DP representative on new processing activities and drive data protection by design and default.

  • Force SPOC for data sharing, processing contracts, data access agreements, DPIAs, new processing (new projects and systems)
  • Provide professional advice to Data Owners
  • Improve processes and systems for data sharing, DPIA and embed data protection by design
  • Develop and maintain appropriate tools/technical solutions/templates
  • Monitor compliance
  • Provide reporting and statistics
  • Develop Policy, Procedural Instruction and Communications
  • Ability to effectively deliver training
  • Understands structure of the police and partners
  • Attend local and national groups
  • Negotiate with partners and third parties, reviewing and agreeing
  • Maintain a compliance database and documentation
  • Update intranet and publish relevant documentation
  • Support the DPO with UK GDPR and Data Protection Act Compliance/Audit

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

  • Diploma Level Data Protection Qualification or equivalent expert experience in Data Protection Law (DPA 2018, GDPR, LED)
  • Sound understanding of Human Rights Act 1998, Freedom of Information Act 200, Information Security and Governance
  • Excellent Communication and Negotiation Skills
  • Ability to effectively write legal documents, using appropriate language and grammar
  • Expert knowledge and experience of managing risk
  • Experience of delivering training
  • Able to meet high standards
  • Work collaboratively and clarify any misconceptions about data protection and sharing
