Job Description: As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will play a pivotal role in providing targeted support to students with social, emotional, and mental health challenges. You will work closely with the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator) and teaching staff to implement individualized interventions, facilitate social and emotional learning, and promote positive behavior management strategies. Your role will involve building strong rapport with students, providing pastoral care, and creating a nurturing environment where every student feels valued and supported.

Key Requirements:

  • Experience and Understanding: Demonstrable experience working with students with SEMH needs and a deep understanding of their challenges and support requirements.
  • Empathy and Patience: Ability to connect with students on an emotional level, show empathy, and respond to their needs with patience and understanding.
  • Positive Behavior Management: Proficiency in implementing effective behavior management strategies and techniques to support students in managing their emotions and behaviors.
  • Collaborative Approach: Strong teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, external professionals, and families to provide holistic support to students.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Willingness to adapt to the changing needs of students and the school environment, remaining flexible and proactive in finding solutions.
  • Excellent Communication: Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to liaise with colleagues, parents, and external agencies.
  • Relevant Qualifications: A relevant qualification in education or special education, or previous experience working in a similar role, is desirable.
