We are seeking a Finance Manager to oversee the financial operations of our educational institution, ensuring compliance with the ESFA, the Charities Commission, and Companies House. The role is integral to supporting the educational aims of the school and requires close collaboration with the admissions team, parents, pupils, and staff.

Day to Day of the Role:
  • Manage payroll operations, including processing payments, administering pension schemes, and completing statutory returns.
  • Maintain regular communication with the Executive Head & HR Manager to ensure accurate payroll processing.
  • Review and update the school’s Financial Policies & Procedures in line with legislative changes and practical experience.
  • Prepare and submit statutory reports to the governors, CFO, and Advisor on Commercial Strategy, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
  • Report to the Resources committee and attend full governors’ meetings each term to present financial accounts and respond to queries.
  • Participate in the end of year audit, termly internal audits, and maintain ongoing audit files.
  • Conduct weekly bank reconciliations and monthly verification of control accounts.
  • Line manage accounts payable and accounts receivable staff, and oversee banking facilities, VAT reclaims, and debt collection.
  • Negotiate service contracts and manage insurance arrangements for the school’s assets.
  • Ensure timely invoicing and payment to suppliers, and liaise with the CFO regarding financial discrepancies.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience working with an Academy within the past 5 years.
  • Proficiency in accounting software, preferably Sage.
  • Strong understanding of payroll processes, pensions, and statutory payments.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting and compliance requirements for educational institutions.
  • Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage a team and work collaboratively with various stakeholders.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present financial information clearly.
