Philspace Ltd is a leading supplier of temporary and portable site accommodation and require a 'Transport Manager' to join this progressively expanding company.

Main duties will involve managing the coordination and direction of transport operations within the company, using a variety of 18-26 tonne trucks fitted with lorry loaders, 3.5 tonne vehicles, 4x4 vehicles and towing trailers and overseeing a small team of six drivers.

Salary: Negotiable dependent on experience.

Working Hours: Good work life balance hours: 7.30am till 4pm, Monday to Friday - Basic 40 hours per week, paid weekly. Flexible overtime and occasional weekend work, Additional hours available if requested.

Qualifications: HGV Class 1 or 2 Driving Licence with CPC or have previously held one. Transport Manager CPC preferable but not essential. Hiab/Lorry Loader certificate would be an advantage.(We will also consider those applicants that want to or are currently working towards attaining the qualifications required). 

Experience: Candidates must possess a comprehensive understanding of transport operations and practices. Knowledge of HGV driver regulations including WTD. Previous experience of managing transport related operations preferred but not essential. Proficient in Microsoft Office.

Various Health & Safety training courses provided upon start. Successful applicant will be required to attend various courses with our training providers.

Must have good personal management skills with the ability to lead and motivate others. Excellent communications skills and possess a positive and initiative-taking attitude coupled with a problem-solving nature. Be reliable, safety conscious, courteous and presentable as you will at times deal directly with customers and suppliers.


JOB DESCRIPTION

·Overseeing the coordination and direction of transport operations whilst liaising with the Hire Desk, Drivers, and Maintenance Staff to ensure smooth and efficient running.

·Managing the team of drivers effectively on a daily basis

·Arranging the routine service and maintenance of all vehicles ensuring their safety and compliance.

·Manage the digital Tachograph records effectively ensuring compliance with our Operators Licence.

·Ensure all cranes, lifting accessories & harnesses etc are routinely serviced and maintained to ensure compliance.

·Analysing logistical problems and producing fresh solutions.

·Awareness of external influences such as legislation, fuel costs and environmental pressures.

·Checking and signing off of weekly timesheets for the drivers.

·Provide driver cover for deliveries & collections as and when required during staff holidays, absences etc.

·Liaising with our Health & Safety Coordinator to ensure systems and procedures are followed and adhered to.

·Communicating with drivers ensuring that they are kept up to date with relevant training/qualifications.

·Champion a culture of compliance by conducting regular audits, enforcing company policies & verifying driver hours weekly.

·Monitor Drivers Licences to ensure compliance.

·Ensure accident & incident protocols are adhered to.

·Conduct random drug and alcohol testing.

·Ensure the safe loading and unloading of vehicles.

·Human Resources – Assist HR Department as and when required in regard to Driver management, Disciplinary issues, and Recruitment.

·Ensure employees are trained in the operations and the health and safety policies of the company.

·Motivating other members of the team.

·Implementation of staff training and induction procedures and oversee driver development.

·To ensure all transport operations are managed in a smooth, efficient, and cost-effective manner to meet the needs of the business and to sustain profitable growth.

·Site visits to ascertain best procedures for deliveries and collections after gaining good working knowledge of our fleet and vehicles.

·Customer contact both in person and by telephone.

·Maintaining office systems to deal efficiently with paper flow, and the organisation and storage of paperwork, documents, and computer-based information.

·Purchasing of goods and materials following our purchasing procedure, using our company software

·Weekly reporting to Director
