About the role

A rare opportunity has arisen to join our client, a thriving Cornish company, on a fixed-term Maternity cover contract as an Operations Administrator. This is a crucial role, ensuring the smooth functioning of their daily operations. You will collaborate with various teams, manage administrative tasks, and contribute to the overall efficiency of the business.

Based at their head office in St Columb, the successful applicant will be involved in the day-to-day running of the business, supporting their mobile operatives as well as the office-based team.

The key responsibilities:

- Tending reception, welcoming visitors, and signing them onto site.

- Answering incoming calls, taking messages, and passing queries to the relevant individuals or making bookings.

- Updating the calls diary (Excel) where appropriate.

- Placing orders for materials/stock/consumables/office stationery.

- Programming/scheduling of operatives and clients.

- Fleet maintenance - booking vans in for their MOT, and arranging services with their mechanic where needed.

- Communicating with suppliers, and forwarding client enquiries to relevant colleagues.

- Taking ownership of their main email account and forwarding emails to the appropriate person.

- Preparing quotes for the sales team.

- Entering worklist information onto their works in progress system.

- Booking jobs in and managing the relevant correspondence.

About you

Our client is seeking a proficient administrator with proven Microsoft IT skills, who is comfortable liaising with outside third parties by telephone and email. You will have strong customer service skills and you will be a confident communicator who is able to demonstrate experience and familiarity of using spreadsheets along with both manual and computerised administrative processes.

You should possess keen attention to detail and analytical abilities, enabling you to interpret information, logically solve problems, and make timely decisions. Additionally, strong organisational and communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work systematically, take initiative, and handle multiple tasks concurrently in a dynamic work environment. Full training on systems and processes will be provided, but candidates must be fully competent in the use of MS Word, Excel, and Outlook, and have prior experience in a similar role.

Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs at Grades A-C/6-9 including English & Maths, or an equivalent qualification
  • Previous experience in an administrative or operations role essential.
  • Knowledge of procurement/finance is strongly desirable.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
  • Able to juggle constraints and work under pressure.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Full, clean driving licence

Working Hours: 45 hours per week, 07:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday with 1-hour unpaid lunch break
