Senior Transport Planner

St Helens

£28,000 - £33,000 plus benefits

Monday to Friday - 37.5 Hours per week

Our Client, a well established, and highly successful, privately owned Importer, supplying the retail industry are now actively recruiting for Senior Transport Planner to join their busy distribution centre based in St Helens.

Job Purpose:

As a Transport Planner you will be responsible for controlling the efficient deployment and routing of delivery vehicles around the UK. This will include route planning, allocating resources and administrating delivery metrics on a day-to-day basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan workloads ensuring compliance with drivers’ hours and working time directive legislation.
  • Maximise fleet efficiency using geographical knowledge.
  • Plan vehicles to maximise fleet utilisation and reduce costs.
  • Support the Transport Manager in managing 3PLs.
  • Conduct driver briefings and de-briefings.
  • Supervise and manage driver workloads.
  • Source extra drivers when needed.
  • React to route planning changes promptly.
  • Assist in setting and meeting KPIs.
  • Maintain constant driver and depot communication.
  • Ensure drivers have correct paperwork.
  • Address driver queries professionally.
  • Keep drivers informed of road problems.
  • Collaborate with the team to service clients effectively.
  • Liaise with Transport Manager and Site Managers.
  • Develop relationships with sales team and customers.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Previous experience in transport planning or logistics management preferred.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
