I am excited to offer the opportunity for a Container Depot Manager to lead a brand-new Container Depot at London Gateway. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in establishing this new venture and, once operational, will oversee the entire depot, ensuring compliance with health and safety policies and driving profitability in line with business growth and business targets. My client is eager to set interviews and will consider relocation for this opportunity.

Day to Day of the role:

  • Manage depot operations efficiently, achieving all activities in accordance with set KPIs.
  • Oversee the office, office-based staff, and all depot staff, including maintenance and repair teams, equipment handlers, and gate operations.
  • Deliver monthly revenue targets, meeting or exceeding budgeted expectations.
  • Manage resources within the operation to meet or exceed customer business requirements.
  • Implement and ensure compliance with all company health and safety policies and environmental legislation.
  • Conduct internal health and safety audits.
  • Lead and participate in meetings as necessary for daily duties.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, promoting effective and efficient work standards.
  • Analyse operational activities, profit & loss, financial accounts, and logistic flows with the Management team.
  • Provide operational reports and statistics to support data-driven decisions for growth and investment opportunities.
  • Manage business growth with workforce planning to maximise people resourcing.
  • Uphold core values and support the team fully.
  • Recruit and mentor staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Circa 10 years of experience in empty container depot operation.
  • Circa 10 years in managerial roles with P&L responsibility.
  • Financial acumen with experience in budget setting and financial objective reporting.
  • Technical knowledge of Container Equipment (Dry and Reefers) including IICL, Cedex codes, and CSC.
  • NEBOSH certification is essential; IOSH is advantageous.
  • Proven track record in operational, people, health and safety, and financial continuous improvement.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and solution-driven mindset.
  • Ability to meet targets and deliver agreed outcomes involving multiple stakeholders.
  • Capable of managing operations in a demanding and changing environment.
  • Resilient, flexible, and committed with the ability to work under pressure.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in resolving operational issues.
  • Proactive management skills in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Strategic decision-making ability on both operational and strategic levels.
