Buyer – Hybrid role – Maternity Cover.

I am currently seeking an experienced Buyer for a FTC for 9 months to cover Maternity leave, to join our prestigious client’s procurement team in Stone, Staffordshire. This is a Hybrid role for the right applicant.

The main purpose of the Buyer role is to purchase within commodity groups to support manufacturing and the wider business.  The successful Buyer will have the ability to work in a team environment and be open to learn new skill sets and can challenge the norm and promote new ideas. 

Responsibilities:

  • Ability to determine commodity strategy to ensure Quality, Cost and Delivery of circa 125 suppliers.
  • Control spends circa £1.8m
  • Process RFQ’s and transact into purchase orders.
  • Manage, measure and develop suppliers.
  • Drive cost reductions activities across commodity ownership in line with business targets.
  • Support NPI projects across the business within commodity scope.
  • Expedite goods and services to ensure supply continuity to the business, delivered on time on cost as a key KPI.
  • Manage inventory levels to ensure minimum stock holding whilst maintaining parts availability.
  • Provide early warning of supply chain component risks and ensure these are highlighted and communicated. Develop contingency strategy for high-risk components.
  • Carry out such other duties as may be required to achieve the overall purpose of the job.

Skills and Experience:

  • Min GCSE English & Maths
  • CIPS qualified (Preferable)
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of Warehouse/Logistics/Freight operations.
  • Ability to understand the organisations requirements and apply procurement / buying strategies.
  • Analytical, organised to meet deadlines.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to explain procurement information on an internal (cross functional) and external (suppliers) level.
  • A working knowledge and use of ERP and MRP for scheduling and forecast analysis.
  • Knowledge of Excel & Word
  • Ability to understand material drawings and specifications.
  • Good negotiation and influencing skills whilst purchasing or expediting goods & services.
  • Good understanding of COGS
  • Willingness to travel (Supplier visits UK)
  • Flexibility and ability to work at pace in a fast moving and varied environment.
  • Vendor analysis understanding
  • Continue to drive cost reduction whilst maintaining QCD (Quality, Cost & Delivery)
  • Consistently deliver value but minimise any risk or exposure to the business.

Working hours & pay

  • Hybrid role - Based on site 3 days a week, Monday/Fridays work from home.
  • 37.5-hour week, 9-5pm (open to flex on start times)
  • £25,000 - £30,000 DOE.
