Your new companyHays are partnered with a global engineering consultancy that provide critical engineering solutions to help safeguard critical national infrastructure, increase operational safety and protect the environment. Their clients operate globally within highly regulated sectors in Oil & Gas, Marine & Offshore, Industrial Manufacturing, Energy, Nuclear and other Government sectors.Based in Warrington, your new company has a Civil and Structural Engineering team of 18 and are looking to boost their Structural Engineering capabilities further to meet demands for an exciting pipeline of work that extends to 2025.Your new roleAs a Senior Structural Engineer, you will be acting independently as an engineer and consultant responsible for managing design processes for smaller projects and elements of larger, more complex projects. You will be working closely with a Principal Engineer across multiple projects simultaneously whilst providing direction and oversight to Graduate and Project Level Engineers:Important tasks include:

  • Act in responsible charge while directly performing assigned tasks conforming with the Company's quality standards and the project budget and schedule.
  • Initiate and maintain communication with clients and contractors to coordinate technical project requirements.
  • Communicate the status of projects to the Department Manager.
  • Interface with clients to define the scope of work and job tasks.
  • Work directly with clients to identify and resolve problems within the area of technical expertise.
  • Propose new approaches to problems encountered and recommend changes in methods, procedures, or designs.
  • Perform as a team member or a project manager, consistent with the skills and experience required for the project.

What you'll need to succeed

  • BEng, MEng, or MSc in an appropriate/relevant discipline (or recognised appropriate equivalent) with at least five years' experience working as a Project Engineer/Consultant.
  • Experience of designing/assessing steel and concrete elements to internationally recognised codes and standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, STAAD, MathCAD and Finite Element Analysis (not essential, other software experience e.g. TEDDS is suitable)
  • The ability to communicate technical aspects of projects and work assignments to peers, subordinates, and clients orally and in writing.
  • The ability to direct the execution of moderately complex engineering tasks, as appropriate.
  • Knowledge of related technical disciplines.
  • Ability to identify and efficiently analyse solutions to problems.
