Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Location: Welshpool TBC (current base is in Newtown but we are relocating to Welshpool shortly)
Salary: £30-35K+ per annum, DOE + Company Car
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Hours: 42.5 hours per week - Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm

CQS Solutions/Bowen Consultants provides professional advice and services to contractors and sub-contractors in the construction industry in order to improve cost certainty, margin and productivity and mitigate risks for business owners.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor - The Role

TheAssistant Quantity Surveyor will take accountability for personal and professional development as well as sharing knowledge and best practice within the team.

Manage the day to day quantity surveying tasks on contracts allocated to you including valuations, subcontract procurement and payment and production of internal financial reports.

Building and managing a portfolio of clients, you will be responsible for:

• Awareness and management of cost control measures.
• Able to work with a range of contracts types
• Maximising profit / return, Accurate forecasting, Manage risk
• Provide information to measure financial performance of projects
• Produce information for preparation of subcontract enquiries
• Preparation of estimates for bids
• Prepare and submit change control requests
• Prepare, Analyse and Negotiate costs for Tenders and Contracts
• Produce and input all information relevant to the CVR
• Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as
required.
• Ensure the correct project records are maintained to substantiate claims and change
notifications.
• Issue contractual notices at the relevant time
• Maintain change control and risk registers
• Preparation of Valuations/Application for payment with full supporting documentation in
accordance with the contract
• Engagement and management of subcontractors and subconsultants.
• Ensure appropriate Client Management is initiated and maintained
• Manage client expectations of budget and time constraints on projects and internally
• Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and change

Health and Safety

To be responsible for your own safety and not jeopardise the health and safety of others.

• To ensure you, your team and any visitors comply with all statutory and site Health, Safety and
Environmental procedures.
• To ensure unsafe practices or conditions, accidents, incidents and dangerous occurrences are
reported accordingly, and corrected where practicable.

Assistant Quantity Surveyor - Skills & Attributes

It is essential, that you can demonstrate a passion for Quantity Surveying and have an appreciation of construction processes.

With a minimum of 3 years' experience in the industry, as Quantity Surveyor, you will offer a range f construction services across a variety of Build sectors;

• The ability to interpret information from construction drawings, specifications and schedules
• Strong Numeracy, good mathematical and accounting skills,
• Good working knowledge of MS Excel/ Word and the ability to learn how to use specialist
software such as QS Cad, Quickscale, Powerproject etc.
• Excellent relationship-building and interpersonal skills, the ability to work in a team or
individually.
• Methodical and meticulous work approach with good attention to detail.
• Tenacity in closing out pieces of work to quality and timescales.
• Experience of working with and to various contract types and commercial terms
• Previous experience of working with and managing sub-contractors.
• Proven experience in a Quantity Surveying role
• Experience in Procurement strategies and processes.
• Effective communicator (written and verbal) and experience in negotiation.
• Client facing and professional manner.
• Conscientious and has a self-disciplined approach,
• Have a good understanding of the most commonly used building technologies

Qualifications;

• BSc (hons) in Quantity Surveyor or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 3 years' experience in a QS/PQS role.
• To have a full UK Driving Licence is essential, as travel and site visits will be necessary.
• CSCS (Construction Skills Certification Scheme) card

You may be required to work in any area of the business where work exists for which you possess the
necessary skills and/or be prepared to undergo training/train others as required by the company.
