Our client, a Nuclear and Energy supplier is looking for an Assembly Weld Technician to join them on an initial 6-month contract at their site in Wimborne.

  • Applicants must be willing to undergo security checks.
  • Fully onsite due to the nature of the role.
  • £250 p/d - £300 p/d Umbrella, inside IR35.
  • 6 month initial contract.

Role Purpose

There are a wide range of specialist mechanical assembly and test activities undertaken within the Manufacturing Department. The Assembly Weld Technician will be responsible for the joining of various material types used in the construction of high precision instrumentation and the provision of specialist manufacturing skills and advice related to this area of the Business. This will involve the utilisation of a wide range of skills including automated and manual TIG welding, Orbital TIG Welding and spot-welding techniques and vacuum and flame brazing.

There is also a requirement to ensure the knowledge and know-how necessary to do this are transferred between team members, in order to retain skills within the Business on an ongoing basis.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Applying specialist methods and techniques required to assemble and join high precision and safety-critical components/instrumentation to the exacting quality standards required
  • To work responsibly within the mechanical assembly team, adapt to the workflow and priorities of the Mechanical Assembly department in order to meet agreed delivery requirements
  • To partake in and aid the skills transfer from the existing team, to ensure key expertise is retained within the Business rather than remaining exclusive to individuals
  • Provide high quality joining/assembly expertise and manufacturing methods
  • Goods-In inspection/verification of incoming piece part
  • Undertake any other duties as may be requested by senior Managers.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Good general education including GCSE or equivalent in Mathematics and English
  • A relevant welder's apprenticeship including C & G or HNC is desirable
  • CAA approved with experience in fine limit work is desirable. Significant previous experience within Nuclear, pharmaceutical, Oil & Gas, Defence and Aerospace industries to BS EN 287-
  • 1:2011 or ASME IX is essential
  • Experience in the formulation of WPS & WPQR documentation is desirable
  • Proficient knowledge and experience of the processes and tools used to facilitate a specialist mechanical joining role producing components for high precision mechanical assemblies. To include experience in Automated, semi-automated & manual TIG welding, Orbital TIG welding, spot welding and brazing
  • Additional knowledge of machining, inspection, brazing, high precision finishes/polishing and experience of working in a 'Clean Room' environment would be of benefit
