Experience of working in similar role within an LA - 12 months minimum ideally longer to experience the whole cycle.Must be competent to talk about their previous caseloads and experience as well as the statutory process, 250+ caseloads experienceMust have experience in tribunals and preparing packs etc.Must have experience carrying out 20 week assessment work

Role

  • Manage the EHC needs assessment process for a set locality.
  • The key contact and responsible for carrying out day to day casework, ensuring quality, consistency and the effective prioritisation of tasks for a set number of cases within a locality.
  • Ensure that all processes and decisions are accurately recorded on the SEN data base and the casework file and that all relevant parties are informed
  • Ensure that all children have their EHC plans reviewed annually and that, where required, transition plans are completed.
  • Provide advice and support to parents, schools and professionals in accordance with the Education Act 1996, regulations, the SEN code of Practice and Hampshire County Council policies and

Knowledge and Skills

A detailed understanding of and the ability to apply the requirements of the SEN statutory framework (Children and Families Act 2014, The Special Educational Needs and Disability Regulations 2014 and the SEN code of Practice) and Hampshire County Council's policies and procedures, including those for school transport.

Delivering Outcomes

The caseworker is responsible for:

the statutory assessment process for a set locality/caseload, and ensuring that all timescales, as laid down in the SEN Code of Practice are adhered to. National performance indicators are set for statutory assessments being completed within specified timescales.

Experience

Minimum of two years successful experience in education administration or a related field including decision making within agreed procedures and the drafting of related correspondence.

Use of IT, especially database processing and up-dating.

Personal Qualities and Skills

  • Articulate, clear and concise written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to organise casework effectively.
  • Flexible approach to working and ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to manage potentially stressful communication with others.
  • Sensitivity to the concerns of parents, headteachers and other professionals, and have the ability to resolve conflicts professionally and calmly.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of children with special educational needs, their families and those who provide for them.
