Responsibilities of the Learning Support Assistant:

  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students with diverse learning needs, including those with learning disabilities, behavioral challenges, or English as a second language.
  • Assist students in accessing the curriculum by adapting materials, providing clarification, and offering additional explanations as needed.
  • Support students with organizational skills, study habits, and time management to promote independence and academic success.
  • Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and other professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) or support strategies tailored to students' specific needs.
  • Monitor student progress, collect data, and communicate effectively with relevant stakeholders to ensure continuity of support and address any emerging challenges.

Requirements:

  • A genuine passion for working with young people and supporting their educational and personal development.
  • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and establish positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
  • Patience, empathy, and a compassionate approach to supporting students facing academic or behavioural challenges.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the evolving needs of students and the school community.
