Community Engagement Officer – Tourism (2 year fixed term contract, Part-time)

Based in Helmsley, North Yorkshire, with regular travel to the coast.

We are looking for someone who can help us deliver a fantastic tourism focused project based in and around the North York Moors coastal community of Staithes. You will also encourage tourism businesses across the National Park to develop new products, services and experiences based around our special qualities.

We are seeking a Community Engagement Officer to join us on a two-year fixed term contract, working 30 hours per week. You will need to be able to understand what makes small businesses tick and tell us about your flair for working with people.

The Role

As a Community Engagement Officer, you will support the delivery of s106 tourism economy contributions. You will develop and deliver community-related projects that increase pride of place in Staithes and surrounding parishes. Co-ordinating business and community engagement, you will facilitate discussions and actions between parties and work with the North York Moors Tourism Network.

You will also assist tourism businesses across the North York Moors to access our tourism grants, developing ideas that focus on the National Park’s special qualities and ensuring these new products and experiences support the Authority’s destination marketing activity,

Additionally, you will:

- Manage the budget, record keeping and monitoring
- Encourage public understanding of our special qualities
- Attend at least two days of volunteering each year
- Ensure that all work is carried out in accordance with our policies and is GDPR compliant

About You

To be considered as a Community Engagement Officer, you will need:

- A relevant degree level qualification in tourism or relevant equivalent experience
- Community engagement experience
- Experience of working with small tourism businesses
- Experience of managing budgets and associated reporting
- Knowledge and experience of engaging with a variety of audiences
- An in-depth understanding of issues that businesses face when operating in remote rural areas, with particular reference to coastal areas
- A full, valid, driving licence

An understanding of the importance of sustainable and inclusive tourism would be advantageous, as would knowledge of the North York Moors and the surrounding area.

This role will involve occasional weekend and evening work.
