1st, 2nd, and 3rd Shifts
Position Summary:
Performs tasks associated with specimen management including receiving samples loading and unloading automation and storage.
Essential Job Duties:
- Assists with loading and unloading of specimens on the Hamilton pipetting instruments including capping and uncapping samples labeling aliquot tubes pulling errors and sorting aliquots.
- Receive and sort clinical lab specimens.
- Sorts specimens into appropriate station for manual pipetting.
- Returns specimens to appropriate locations.
- Performs discard and relocation of specimen racks.
- Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
- Scan and/or data entry of specimen and patient information.
- Ensure all lab equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
- Troubleshoot any specimen related issues.
- Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Adheres to the standard operating procedures and safety requirements of Esoterix CLIA CAP and other regulatory bodies.
- Documents all quality assurance activities as necessary including preventative maintenance logs instrument function checks troubleshooting and quality control to ensure regulatory compliance.
- Follows any other job-related instructions and performs any other job-related duties requested by department management.
Required Education/Degree:
High School Diploma or equivalent
Required Certification/License:
None
Required Work Experience:
No experience required. This is an entry level position. Preferred 6 months of previous lab assistant experience. Training occurs on-site.
Physical Demands:
Requires utilization of fingers and hands standing-remaining on ones feet in an upright position sitting-remaining in the normal seated position handling-seizing holding grasping lifting pushing pulling. Requires the ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
Working Conditions:
There is regular exposure to potential blood-borne pathogens.
Lab Assistants will be working in high volume production-based environments performing a vital component of clinical lab science.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous medical/lab or production experience is preferred.
- Comfortability with handling biological specimens.
- Ability to accurately identify specimens.
- Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
- High level of attention to detail with the ability to prioritize and multitask.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and meet established turn-around times.
- Strong communication skills: both written and verbal.
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.
- Must pass a standardized color blindness test.
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed.
