The Liaison will identify opportunities for improvement in the instrumentation/case cart delivery processes and lead efforts to enhance communication between the departments.
Key roles and responsibilities of the OR Liaison include:
Identify gaps in communication and processes between the OR and SPD
Serve as a point person with the OR/SPD personnel and physicians to resolve issues
Complete room visits/ audits in order to collect the following Data:
- Case Delivery Issues
- Tray Issues/Quality
- Post Case Return Quality
- Audit trays for bioburden and correctness
Assist in establishing inventory needs list based on daily surgery schedules
Attend daily departmental huddles/review daily surgery schedule with OR / SPD leadership to determine instrument needs and communicate to SPD
Establish and maintain Turnover management procedures
Provide daily feedback to coordinators/SPD of issues and operational barriers
Perform instrument audits to help ensure instrument sets are being delivered accurate and complete to the OR suite.
Check all trays in the morning of surgery to ensure all trays are present that are needed.
Validates that preference cards are correct.
Assists with data collection to provide reports &KPI metrics as defined in “Reports and KPI” section to Infection Control, quality and CCH leadership
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED required
- Two (2) years’ experience in surgical instrument processing as a surgical Technologist preferred
- Current certification as a sterile processing Technician (CBSPD or CRCST)
- Two years’ experience in surgical instrument processing
- Experience in case cart management preferred
