Provides direct and indirect patient care in the medical/surgical setting. Demonstrates clinical competence when providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures, and managing emergencies, with minimum supervision. Acts as a patient and family advocate. Provides assessment and planning for individualized patient care. Determines priorities of care based on physical and psychosocial needs, as well as factors influencing patient flow through the system. Communicates appropriately regarding changes in patient's status, symptomatology, and results of diagnostic studies. Able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is capable of performing general nursing duties in all departments, with adequate supervision.

To perform this job, an individual must perform each essential function satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodation.

New Graduates may only sign off on paperwork using the initials GN to signify they are a graduate nurse.

聽聽聽聽 Maintains accurate and continued nursing documentation including patient histories, conditions, treatments, responses and assessment of changes.

聽聽聽聽 Able to perform a head-to-toe assessment on general patient population, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, and reassessments as per policy.

聽聽聽聽 Able to adequately assess and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management.

聽聽聽聽 Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.

聽聽聽聽 Follows the six (6) medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors.

聽聽聽聽 Able to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient鈥檚 response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.

聽聽聽聽 Interacts professionally with patient and family and involves patient and family in the formation of the plan of care.

聽聽聽聽 Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Identifies and addresses psychosocial, cultural, ethnic, and religious/spiritual needs of patients and family.

聽聽聽聽 Possesses the ability to assist physicians with procedures, as needed.

聽聽聽聽 Functions as liaison between administration, patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers.

聽聽聽聽 Effectively communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.

聽聽聽聽 Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over patient life span and the skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care to the patients served.

聽聽聽聽 Able to interpret data about the patient鈥檚 status in order to identify each patient鈥檚 age specific needs and provide care needed by the patient group.

The following clinical skills MAY NOT be performed by a new Graduate Nurse.

The Graduate Nurse may not:

1. Manage PCA pump infusion devices.

2. Administer blood or blood components, plasma, plasma expanders.

3. Change tubing on or administer IV chemotherapeutic agents.

4. Administer IV immunosuppressive drugs.

5. Manage epidural analgesia infusions.

6. Administer experimental or investigative/research drugs.

7. Manage respiratory support equipment (excluding trach care/suctioning).

8. Perform arterial puncture or draw blood from arterial catheters.

9. Manage renal dialysis or access devices used for renal dialysis.

10. Perform peritoneal dialysis.

11. Advance or remove chest tubes.

12. Access Narcotics.


Qualifications

Education:

Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited School of Nursing, Required

Required Licenses:

Current Temporary Mississippi Practice Permit / Graduate Nurse License

Required Certifications:

聽聽聽聽 American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

聽聽聽聽 Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required within 90 days of hire or transfer.

Required Skills:

聽聽聽聽 Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

聽聽聽聽 Basic computer knowledge.

聽聽聽聽 Demonstrates proficient time management skills.

聽聽聽聽 Uses critical thinking skills and clinical judgment to work autonomously as defined by the Nurse Practice Act.

聽 聽Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing the English language necessary to perform the essential functions of this job, especially with regard to activities impacting patient or employee safety or security. Additional languages preferred.

聽聽聽聽 Able to function independently and exercise judgment in interactions with physicians, interprofessional care team and patients and their families.聽聽
