Participates in the training of new employees and students as necessary.Job Duties
- Calibrates and assays isotope doses; prepares radioisotopes and radiopharmaceuticals.
- Explains procedures and administers radiopharmaceuticals to patients; positions patients for procedures; provides protection to patients and personnel in accordance with prescribed safety standards.
- Calibrates equipment and performs camera and computer quality control; operates selected equipment to perform radionuclide imaging including scanning, organ blood flow studies, organ function studies and PET and CT studies; processes images.
- Performs semi-in-vitro studies in wet lab.
- Takes call and performs emergent studies when necessary.
- Utilizes radiology information system and electronic medical records system to maintain information required for accurate patient records.
- Maintains record of receipt, use, storage, and disposal of isotopes.
- Performs routine and emergency laboratory radiation surveys and wipe tests; surveys contaminated material; assists in containment and cleanup of radiation spills.
- Performs quality control tests of equipment; immediately notifies the Team Leader or designee of irregularities.
- Notifies the leadership or appropriate maintenance personnel of equipment malfunctions according to procedure.
- Shares responsibility for ordering supplies; orders isotopes as needed.
- Acts as a Nuclear Medicine liaison; provides support to physicians as requested; refers problems to appropriate leadership.
- Maintains a positive interpersonal relationship with patients, physicians, and employees.
- Performs processing and formatting of computer studies as requested by Team Leader.
- Performs scheduling of patients as requested by Team Leader.
- Performance of nuclear medicine exams and assisting with procedures and therapies require access and handling of non-controlled medications and radioactive pharmaceuticals.
