Position Summary:

Sovah Health is looking for the ideal candidate who will evaluate and provides therapeutic activities for patients in the Behavioral Health Unit. Performs structured evaluations and develops a treatment plan in conjunction with primary care counselor using therapeutic, recreational, and leisure activities.

·         Conducts assessment and establishes recreational therapy treatment goals and objectives to meet the individual needs of patients.

·         Coordinates therapeutic recreation activities for both large and small groups to observe patient response and encourage socialization.

·         Implements the treatment plan using appropriate modalities.

·         Evaluates each patient's progress and the effectiveness of recreational therapy interventions.

·         Monitors and modifies the plan of care as needed and seeks consultation as necessary.

·         Plans and/or assists with patient discharge from therapy services and treatment setting.

·         Provides patient and patient's family with information regarding leisure life styles and creates an awareness of recreational resources in their community.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

 

Minimum Education

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Therapy or related therapeutic discipline required

Required Skills

Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Requires flexibility in scheduling and ability to work all shift patterns including week-ends and holidays to insure continuity of care and appropriateness of therapy coverage to the patients of Sovah Health Danville.

Licenses:

License from the Virginia State Board to practice in area of specialty peferred

Certifications:

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS) required within one year

Basic Life Support (BLS) American Heart Association (AHA) required

Minimum Work Experience

One (1) year of experience in a psychiatric or health care setting preferred
