Histology Technician

Seeking a self-motivated laboratory technologist specialty in Histology with hands-on experience in histology sample preparation including but not limited to sample registration, accessioning, tissue processing, embedding, microtomy, staining slides, imaging slides, slide handling and shipping, etc. See below and apply for more details:

Description:

- He or she demonstrates skills in maintaining accurate tissue and slide records.

- The candidate is expected to be able to clean and maintain instruments.

- Requires a bachelor’s degree in biology, related science, or equivalent.

- Previous laboratory working experiences in histology, pathology or molecular/cell biology department is a plus.

- Developed skills in protocol development and protocol troubleshooting are preferred.

- This position requires completion of an accredited histotechnology program. ASCP Histotechnician certification (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) certification is preferred.

- Working in clinical setting or familiar with CLIA/CAP regulations is preferred.

PERFORMANCE GOALS AND SKILLS:

• The histology technician or technologist will interact with their Supervisor and Senior Manager as well as Pathologist(s) for various tasks.

• Foundational understanding of common histology/biology knowledge/skills

• Support team leads and junior technicians in executing projects on time.

• Help implement quality control processes throughout various workflows.

• Help maintain associated instruments in good working order including supply and consumable maintenance.

• Maintain laboratory records according to company guidelines.

• Full understanding of laboratory requirements and SOPs

• Ability to work in a collaborative environment

• Proven problem solving and troubleshooting abilities

• Time management and project management skills

Primary responsibilities include:

• Tissue grossing, fixation, processing, and embedding including both fixed and fresh frozen tissues.

• Microtomy of fixed and frozen tissues, and section mounting.

• H&E staining, special staining and immunohistochemistry.

• Whole slide digital image scanning.

• Performs quality assessments of biological tissue samples.

• Receives dispatches and maintains biological tissue samples.

• Maintains all records and documentation as required per departmental SOPs.

• Understands and follows all safety rules

• Performs and documents scheduled preventative maintenance as required.

Qualifications:

- Bachelor’s degree in biology (or related field) with 1+ year of industry or relevant laboratory experience is required.

- 1 year of lab experience

- Hands on histological techniques, special staining, and immunohistochemistry assays.

- Experience in biological sample handling and processing
