Essential Functions 

1. Initiates and participates in multi-disciplinary care planning, interventions, and evaluations.2. Performs assessments and conducts preoperative interview of same day surgery patients.3. Is knowledgeable in medication administration and provides safe administration of medications.4. Maintains accurate narcotic counts and ensures documentation of narcotic record is complete.5. Is knowledgeable in Sedation Analgesia.6. Prepares outpatients for surgery.7. Performs as a circulating nurse and scrub nurse.8. Keeps accurate and complete Operating Room records.9. Updates preference cards to ensure proper OR case management.10. Able to adapt to change when OR cases change, or emergencies are added.11. Reports malfunctioning equipment in a timely manner. Transports equipment to maintain equipment integrity.12. Anticipate needs for next day cases (i.e. arrival times, instrumentation, meds, discharges, follow up care)13. Provides immediate nursing care to post-operative patients.14. Provides emotional support to patients/significant others.15. Provides safe transportation of patients to Nursing Unit.16. Prepares outpatients for discharge to home with post-operative instructions.17. Discharges patients to Nursing Unit or to home.18. Is responsible for accurate documentation and maintenance of complete medical record.19. Is responsible and accountable for maintaining and improving knowledge and skills.20. Works well in a team atmosphere and incorporates a professional attitude in his/her performance. Promotes a positive, cohesive work environment.21. Functions as an independent nurse.22. Assess data reflective of patient’s status; interprets appropriate information needed to identify patients’ requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, based on units Policy and Procedures.23. Provide interventions based on age-specific criteria and departmental patient-care standards.24. Maintains stock, supplies, and drugs at PAR levels.25. Maintains current CPR, ACLS and PALS requirements.26. RN is able to take call on the PACU call schedule and report to GCH within an hour of notification.


Minimum EducationAssociates Degree - RequiredBachelors Degree - PreferredKY Nursing License or equivalentKentucky RN state licensure or compact licensure required
