Job Summary:
The Manager - Integration Platform is responsible for leading, managing, and optimizing enterprise integration platforms spanning API Gateways (real-time APIs), Messaging (Pub/Sub, Kafka), and Batch/ETL systems. This role is instrumental in enabling reliable and scalable data exchange across business-critical systems by ensuring the stability, security, and performance of integration services. The Manager works closely with engineering, DevOps, architecture, and data teams to implement integration best practices, oversee delivery pipelines, and drive operational excellence across real-time, streaming, and batch integration domains.
This is an on site position located in Springfield, MO.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Define, evangelize, and execute the strategic roadmap for the integration platform, ensuring it meets current business needs and scales with future growth.
- Act as the primary owner and subject matter authority for enterprise integration platforms, aligning architectural decisions with digital transformation initiatives.
- Continuously evaluate and evolve the platform to accommodate new integration patterns, cloud-native innovations, and cross-domain use cases (e.g., real-time analytics, data mesh, omnichannel delivery).
- Lead a team of highly motivated platform engineers, supporting complex architecture and design challenges.
- Lead the engineering, governance, and lifecycle management of enterprise APIs using Google Apigee (Edge/X).
- Establish policies and frameworks for API productization, security enforcement (OAuth2.0, mTLS), runtime traffic control, quota management, and monetization (if applicable).
- Collaborate with development teams to design and publish APIs with consistent standards, scalable patterns, and automated governance.
- Oversee the API developer portal, enabling self-service onboarding, documentation, versioning visibility, and analytics-driven usage insights.
- Elicit the complex business requirements using a variety of methods, such as interviews, document analysis, workshops, and workflow analysis, to express the requirements in terms of target deliverables, features, and capabilities.
- Architect and operationalize a high-throughput, low-latency enterprise messaging layer leveraging Google Cloud Pub/Sub and Apache Kafka.
- Define best practices for message schema evolution, topic partitioning, replication, high availability, disaster recovery, and throughput optimization.
- Provide architectural oversight and operational leadership over cloud-native and legacy ETL systems (e.g., Google Dataflow, Informatica, dbt, Airflow).
- Modernize legacy pipelines, replacing monolithic batch with modular, event-triggered flows wherever practical.
- Champion infrastructure-as-code using Terraform to provision and manage GCP-native integration infrastructure, including Apigee, Pub/Sub, IAM, VPCs, and more.
- Implement secure, automated, and auditable CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, Cloud Build, or similar tools—enabling seamless promotion of integration assets across environments.
- Govern the secure management of credentials, secrets, and certificates using GCP Secret Manager, Vault, or equivalent.
- Ensure that integration platforms are hardened, monitored, and compliant with internal standards and external regulatory requirements (e.g., SOC 2, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI).
- Lead implementation of Zero Trust principles across APIs and messaging layers, enforcing mutual TLS, token validation, and least-privilege access.
- Partner with Information Security, Risk, and Legal to conduct architecture reviews, data protection assessments, and incident readiness exercises.
- Oversee budgeting, resource allocation, and investment planning for integration platforms.
- Manage vendor partnerships for integration tooling, licensing, and external consulting/managed services engagements.
- Drive cost optimization and value realization across platform-related cloud spend, support contracts, and third-party integrations.
Skills:
Required:
- 14+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, enterprise integration, or platform development, with a proven record of delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing integration solutions.
- 10+ years of people and technical leadership experience, including managing integration or platform engineering teams, leading strategic initiatives, and mentoring talent in modern cloud and hybrid environments.
- Expertise in API Gateway technologies, especially Google Apigee, including proxy development, policy enforcement, developer portal management, and runtime analytics.
- Strong experience with event-driven messaging platforms such as Google Cloud Pub/Sub and Apache Kafka, with hands-on understanding of schema design, message routing, ordering, and fault tolerance.
- Hands-on experience managing ETL and data integration pipelines using tools such as Google Cloud Dataflow, Informatica, dbt, or Airflow, including orchestration, data quality enforcement, and SLA monitoring.
- Proficiency in Java and Python for backend development, integration logic, platform automation, and scripting in CI/CD and IaC workflows.
- Solid understanding of both relational and NoSQL databases, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, BigQuery, and Cloud Spanner, with practical experience in schema modeling, query optimization, and integration.
- Experience working with Snowflake for data warehousing and analytics integration, including data ingestion pipelines, connector-based integration, performance tuning, and role-based access control (RBAC) for secure data sharing.
- Deep understanding of container orchestration and deploying services on Kubernetes, with production experience managing microservices and integration components on Google Kubernetes Engine (GKE).
- Advanced proficiency in Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services for integration workloads, including IAM, Secrets Manager, Cloud Functions, VPCs, and Logging/Monitoring tools.
- Proven experience using Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to provision and manage secure, repeatable, and modular cloud infrastructure.
- Strong background in CI/CD pipeline implementation, using tools like Jenkins, Cloud Build, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI/CD, ensuring automated, compliant, and resilient release processes.
- Familiarity with observability and telemetry tooling, such as Dynatrace, Prometheus, Grafana, Cloud Monitoring, and OpenTelemetry, including distributed tracing, metrics, and alerting.
- Practical knowledge of security frameworks and practices including OAuth 2.0, JWT, mutual TLS, Zero Trust architectures, and data encryption standards across APIs, messaging, and data pipelines.
- Experience establishing and governing API lifecycle standards, message topic management, schema versioning, and best practices for reusable integration components across diverse teams.
- Understanding of regulatory and compliance frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and SOX, and how they impact API security, logging, and data flow integrity in cloud environments.
- Ability to coordinate across hybrid and multi-cloud environments, supporting both legacy systems and modern workloads during cloud migration or digital transformation initiatives.
- Exceptional communication, stakeholder engagement, and leadership skills, capable of translating technical complexity into strategic business impact and cross-team alignment.
