Directs the department's activities and resources to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.

Reports to: Senior Nursing Officer

Develops and implements departmental goals, plans, and standards consistent with the clinical, administrative, legal, and ethical requirements/objectives of the organization.

Directs and evaluates departmental operations, including patient care delivery, information technologies, service level determination, and complaint management, to achieve performance and quality control objectives.

Plans and monitors staffing activities, including hiring, orienting, evaluating, disciplinary actions, and continuing education initiatives.

Prepares, monitors, and evaluates departmental budgets, and ensures that the department operates in compliance with allocated funding. Coordinates and directs internal/external audits.

Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.

Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.

Follows established policies and procedures, objectives, safety standards, and sensitivity to confidential information.

Willing and able to demonstrate appropriate core competencies annually or as requested.

Prepares work schedules to meet staffing guidelines of the department.

Hires employees to provide appropriate coverage for the department, directs and monitors the orientation process.

Completes performance appraisals and competency testing in a timely manner.

Counsels employees with substandard performance.

Conducts department meetings to ensure that members of the department are educated and informed of all activities impacting their department.

Maintains a positive working relationship with other Department Managers, Administration and Medical staff.

Develops and maintains a department Quality Improvement Program.

Establishes departmental policies and procedures that provide direction as to the day-to-day activities of the department.

Assures that all department members work in compliance with established policies and procedures.

Provides reports as requested to individual administratively responsible for Department.

Demonstrates self-directed learning and participates in continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.

Communicates in an assertive manner.

Maintains confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Support the culture of service excellence throughout the organization.

Actively seek ways to demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement and participate in professional development opportunities.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Completes annual educational requirements.

Understands and adheres to Bell's compliance standards as they appear in Bell's Corporate Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Bell regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.

Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

Computer and/or keyboarding skills required.

Minimum EducationX Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a valid RN license in the State of MichiganX BSN â–¡ Preferred X Required
Required SkillsRequires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
X Basic Life Support (BLS) X Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or attained within 1 year of hire X Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or attained within 1 year of hire
Licenses: Registered NursePrimary source verification: Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs.
Minimum Work ExperienceThree years nursing experience.Three years experience in nursing management.Demonstrated leadership abilities through documented references.Demonstrated interpersonal relationship/communication skills through documented references.
