Position Summary

 The Registered Nurse has accountability to provide direct patient care in accordance with scope of nursing license and the established policies and procedures of Southwestern Medical Center.  

Maintains clinical competencies through on-going continuing education. Monitors and ensures delivery of patient care commensurate with the education and experience of available staff.

Service/Quality Excellence:

Participates in the Hospital’s Service Excellence Program designed to improve patient care, employee and physician satisfaction.  Participation includes knowledge of HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Systems and Providers, which measures patient’s perceptions of care received and Core Measure Set, which measures performance of patients’, care based on medical research. Participates

In hospital wide and unit specific performance projects

 

      Tasks/Responsibilities:

  • Hourly rounding on patients: Acknowledge – Introduce – Duration – Explanation – Thank you
  • Achieves documentation requirements:

      SBAR : Demonstrates appropriate use of handoff process during report and internal transfers

      Ticket To Ride: Participates in the handoff process with ancillary services

      CHF Discharge:  Completes CHF discharge form

      Critical Value: Uses form and calls physician w/in 30minutes

      Restraints: Document Order, Flow Sheet monitoring and Update Care Plan

      Fall Precautions: Use Yellow Armband

      Pain Med: Document assessment and Reassessment

      Care Plans: Update every 24 hours

       Compliant with use of unapproved abbreviations

       Complies with the scan medication process

       Documents verbal/telephone orders appropriately

       Completes chart checks per unit protocol

       Complies with all National Patient Safety Goals

       Complies with stroke protocols

        Dates, times, and signs all entries legibly

  • Consult and coordinate with health care team members to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care plans.
  • Responsible for assisting others and self with maintaining budget
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate diagnostic tests to identify and assess patient's condition.
  • Monitor all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
  • Direct and supervise less skilled nursing/health care personnel, or supervise a particular unit on one shift.
  • Prepare patients for, and assist with, examinations and treatments.
  • Assume role of relief charge nurse when assigned
  • Exhibits initiative by seeking opportunities for professional growth. Assist in Education process of all team members including nursing students.

Qualifications

 

  • License:

    • Must possess a current Registered Nurse License for the State of Oklahoma
    • BLS within 30 days of hire.
    • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire
    • NIH Stroke by end of Clinical Nursing Orientation

     

          Education:

          Graduate from an accredited professional nurse program

         

                Skills:

    • Instructing — Preceptor for staff including nursing students.
