Location: Liberty, MO

Magna is seeking a Welding Engineer to support welding operations, process development, equipment optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives within a high-volume automotive manufacturing environment. This role works closely with Production, Maintenance, Engineering, and Quality teams to ensure welding processes meet customer specifications while improving safety, quality, throughput, and reliability.

What You'll Do

  • Support and optimize resistance welding, projection welding, and GMAW welding processes
  • Troubleshoot welding, quality, and production issues through root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Develop, maintain, and improve weld documentation, standards, and process controls
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve weld quality, process capability, and production throughput
  • Support equipment installation, integration, commissioning, and process validation activities
  • Perform welder setup, weld parameter development, consumable life studies, weld lobe development, and schedule optimization
  • Perform basic robot programming and weld touch-ups as needed
  • Audit welding processes and maintain weld setup sheets and process documentation
  • Work with cross-functional teams to develop PFMEAs, Control Plans, Process Flows, and standardized work
  • Support manufacturing launches, engineering changes, customer requirements, and project execution from design through production

Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Welding Engineering, Welding Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field preferred
  • 1-2 years of resistance welding experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Experience with projection welding, resistance welding, and GMAW welding processes
  • Working knowledge of GD&T, SPC, and welding quality standards
  • Experience with PFMEA, Control Plans, APQP, mistake-proofing (Poka-Yoke), and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, technical drawings, and engineering specifications
  • Experience with CAD software and Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with customers, vendors, and cross-functional teams
