Rebecca School is a developmental program that utilizes the DIRFloortime method developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan. Rebecca School is opening a new location in Mount Vernon, NY for the 2024 school year and is seeking bachelors level Teaching Assistants to work with students age 3 to 21 with neuro-developmental delays in relating, communicating and thinking. As a Teaching Assistant, you will support students within the school as well as out in the community. A successful Teaching Assistant at Rebecca School should exhibit safety awareness, display the ability to challenge students to relate, communicate and think in all aspects of their development, and be a big picture thinker. Teaching Assistants support each student's individualized developmental program through collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. 

Salary: $40,000 - $50,000 per year, depending on education and experience (based on a 12-month position)

RESPONSIBILITIES | WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Assist in taking care of the special needs of the students 
  • Assist with individualized instruction and work with small groups of students
  • Complete clerical duties as assigned by the teacher
  • Assist students with various projects and curriculum tasks
  • Help with the supervision of students on field trips planned by the teacher
  • Assist the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities
  • Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes
  • Help students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher 
  • Distribute and collect workbooks, papers and other materials for instruction 

QUALIFICATIONS | WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's Degree or higher
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with students, staff and parents
