Job Summary
The RAN Director will lead the RAN Architecture and Design team. This will include supervising engineers, managers, and contractors. The RAN A&D team is responsible for Lab and Field testing RAN vendor solutions and software, Gold Standards and feature guidance, transport and CMTS solutions, and market WIFI and 5G designs, including CIQs, PCI and capacity planning. They will also provide expertise and oversight to post launch network performance & optimization. The ideal candidate will be a wireless subject matter expert, and have prior leadership experience, and a great communicator. Hands on with Samsung 5G RAN solutions, WIFI APs, Dual SIM devices, Lab testing, and CBRS spectrum preferred.Job Description
Responsibilities include:
Leadership
Manage and plan work activities for multiple engineering teams. Host team meetings, provide direction, approve timesheets, and manage budget. Hire, develop, and utilize talent to meet objectives. Anticipate resource needs based on project schedules and expected workload.
Create and present weekly program status updates to leadership team, internal and external teams, and project managers.
Work closely with Performance and Optimization teams, transport team, Operations, and Samsung support teams to investigate & address hardware and software defects, including CMTS backhaul.
Engage, problem solve, and communicate across the enterprise to drive successful initiatives.
Partner across departments to meet goals and timelines, and collaborate with other groups when support is needed.
Manage and evaluate RAN vendors, Spectrum options, Lab test gear & tools.
Leader needs to be a clear communicator, be able to strive in fast paced and changing environment, and showcase self-sufficiency, personal enthusiasm, and proper judgement.
Lab and Field testing and Gold Standards
RAN 5G SA expertise
3GPP signaling and procedures, with ability to analyze drive test data to identify specific issues
Understand RAN vendor features, including SON features, preferably for Samsung
Technical management of RAN vendors:
Testing software releases in lab and field FFA environments
Evaluating and approving new HW, SW, and features
Tier 4 RAN vendor relationship and technical discussions
Understand HFC transport networks and architecture, including DOCSIS
Work with CMTS vendors and Operations team to identify and resolve issues
Publication and Management of Gold Standards and Best Practices
Develop procedures and MOPs for use by Operations and Optimization teams
Share Gold Standards and guidance to other teams
Collaborate with RAN and Tool vendors to address hardware and software related issues and concerns
Design and Capacity planning
Responsible for link budgets, antenna patterns, and Atoll modeling of 5G radios & WIFI APs
Identifies and prioritizes areas of interest for maximum offload and best customer experience
Plans sites, identifies specific node locations, develops CIQs, and publishes design plan
Supports site development and optimization teams to fulfill plan of record
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance with design specifications and performance objectives for a scalable 5G & WIFI data network.
Expertise with GIS tools such as QGIS, Atoll, Google Earth, and other
Understands CBRS band rules and regulations, WIFI bands, and WIFI roadmap
Conduct analysis to improve return on investment, throughput, experience, process and efficiency
Monitor utilization and plan capacity and throughput enhancements
Automation and Efficiency
Lead SON and RAN automation activities
Automate processes and reporting as much as possible
Support Zero Touch Provisioning efforts with CIQ and Gold Standard input
Requirements and skills required:
BS Electrical Engineering or equivalent
10+ years RF Experience and in-depth working knowledge of LTE & 5G
5+ years of Management Experience including leading RF engineers and vendor management
Knowledge of the wireless industry and technologies, frequency spectrum and propagation characteristics
In depth working knowledge of 5G NR SA architecture, SON, and Core functions
Subject matter expert of 5G call flows, counters, KPI formulas, and link budgets
Atoll and GIS tool expertise
Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and MS Teams
Excellent communication, collaboration, and teamwork skills
Self-sufficient, organized, and customer focused with a positive attitude
Highly motivated and able to efficiently manage simultaneous projects
Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with technical and non-technical teams
Nice to have:
Experience with Samsung 5G RAN and USM
Experience with CBRS spectrum, SAS provider, and CBRS CPI certified
Hands on knowledge of NetScout tools: TrueCall, nBA, nSA, nG1
Experience with Accuver ARTS, XCAL, & XCAP with ability to analyze Layer 3 logs
Competent with Site Tracker, Blue Planet, Tableau, QGIS
Experience with CMTS and WIFI AP troubleshooting
Knowledge of Dual SIM Dual Standby is a plus
