Prepares and broadcasts morning and evening rush hour traffic reports on KDKA radio. Responsible for 24 on-air traffic reports and numerous off-air reports which supply approximately 1,000,000 people with information each day.
What You’ll Do
Compiles continuously-updated information on traffic patterns and disruptions by monitoring the scanner system, contacting sources of background information by phone and using online traffic monitoring services.
Delivers live and/or taped traffic reports to KDKA during morning and evening rush hours and during special events or off-hour emergencies by request.
Maintains effective working relationships with KDKA and PennDOT; notifies PennDOT of problems to be addressed.
Participates in the promotional activities of KDKA by request.
Compiles and updates construction report lists for broadcast by the Public Relations Assistant.
Contacts state, city and county construction personnel for current updates on construction restrictions by phone.
Schedules on-call Traffic Reporter(s) as necessary to cover shift.
Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need
Broadcast degree from accredited institution or university and/or equivalent TV/Radio broadcast experience desired.
Good speaking and vocabulary skills required.
Knowledge of city, state and county highway systems desired.
