Our client, who has been here in Metro Detroit for over 50 years is looking to add a Sr. Formulation Chemist to their team. This is a Formulation Chemist role however the focus is set on a working with a Formulation Chemist who has and wants to continue to grow with their managerial / leadership skills. This person will also start off with Assistant Lab Manager responsibilities along with formulation/reverse engineering responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

• Plan, coordinate, and direct programs for research, product development, troubleshooting, and improvement of manufacturing processes.

• Maintain and develop Metalworking, General Industrial, and Process Oil product lines.

• Direct programs for analysis and testing of substances to verify composition of manufactured products.

• Coordinate research and analysis activities according to applicable regulations, manufacturing processes, or other considerations (perform product formulation along with reverse engineering of formulas, R&D).

• Approves modifications for formulas, standards, specifications, and processes.

• Review research, testing, quality control, and other operational reports to ensure that quality standards, efficiency, and schedules are met.

• Interpret results of laboratory activities to laboratory personnel, management, and professional and technical societies.

• Provide technical support, guidance, and training to internal and external customers.

• Troubleshoot customer issues.

• Provide trial and start-up support for the sales team.

• Direct and handle regulatory affairs such as governmental reporting, compliance programs, and technical data sheets and SDSs.

• Advise management, technical personnel, and representatives of other organizations of activities.

• Trouble shoot laboratory equipment issues.

Qualifications:

  • Formulation (chemistry) experience 3+ years
  • Supervisory experience or team management (1+ years)
  • Bachelor of Science (preferably Chemistry) and 5-10+ years of related experience

Disqualifiers:

  • No formulation experience.
