AAA Northern New England has an in-office opportunity for an Administrative Specialist / Driving Instructor position in the Portland, ME office.
This position provides a wide variety of clerical and administrative support to staff of the Driving School. Answers incoming telephone calls, prepare a variety of correspondence and reports, maintain office supplies, perform file/record maintenance, and make appointments. This role additionally performs in-car driving instruction to novice drivers.
What You’ll Do:
Preparing reports, spreadsheets, and memos for department staff and/or management; composing, typing and proofing correspondence, reports and forms; balancing cash drawers; posting ledgers; resolving overages/shortages; managing Accounts Receivables, etc.
Maintain office filing systems. Update and maintain records which may include databases or other computer records. May process information of a confidential or technical nature.
Monitor the operating condition of all office equipment. May also be responsible for monitoring inventory of office supplies and equipment. Place supply orders as necessary.
Member service functions such as reception, call handling, etc.
Conduct behind-the-wheel training to drivers of all ages and experience levels as prescribed by the AAA Driving School curriculum and training program
Utilize our driving school software to record and maintain student progress
Responsibility for evaluating student’s performance and provide additional support as needed
Maintain knowledge of safe driving and defensive driving practices and maintain all records required by the state of Maine and New Hampshire.
Works under general supervision. Makes decisions according to established guidelines.
Qualifications:
Moderate Proficiency in Microsoft Office software products
Moderate verbal, telephone and written communication skills required.
Requires ability to prioritize and multi-task, while maintaining a high level of detail and accuracy.

Have a strong motivation to improve safe driving practices of all drivers
Have flexible enough to accommodate the availability of our students, which means working some weekday evenings and occasionally a weekend when necessary.
Must Haves:
High School or GED
Valid driver’s license and an acceptable driving record
Must have a minimum of 3-5 years of driving experience
Will be required to take and pass a physical exam for licensing by the state
Will be required to pass a background check and drug test
