Provides nursing leadership and coordinates patient care during assigned shifts.  Management of staffing and supply and demand of beds.  Is a representative of nursing and hospital administration and has the authority and responsibility for administrative decisions and appropriate notification of CNO or Administrator on call.

Essential Functions

  • Supervises and mentors nursing and support staff during assigned shift.
  • Determines staffing level and assignments based on staff availability, staff abilities, census, patient acuity and work/patient flow.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed.
  • Floats between staff to assist with problem-solving.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of patient care and identifies any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
  • Responds to complaints about patient care and related services and manages through established channels.
  • Performs role-specific duties as assigned, including entering orders, performing admissions or discharges, and coordinating transfers.
  • Ensures staff has necessary equipment and supplies to provide safe, quality patient care.
  • Integrates evidence-based practices into operations and clinical protocols.
  • Creates and fosters an environment that encourages professional growth.
  • Must complete all education assigned and required for the position, including classroom and on-line courses.

Qualifications

Qualifications - External

Minimum Education
Graduate of a Program in Discipline - Registered Nursing

Required Licenses
Registered Nurse
Current Kentucky or compact state RN licensure required.

Required Skills
Certifications: American Heart Association (AHA) Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA - Required to be current upon start of position
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) - AHA - Required to be obtained within 6 months of start of position
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) - AHA - Required to be obtained within 6 months of start of position
