Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week (or other frequency dictated by their manager)

The General MotorsĀ Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC)Ā organization isĀ seekingĀ toĀ identifyĀ highly motivated and qualified individuals forĀ current orĀ futureĀ Buyer rolesĀ Ā 

Selected candidates will be invited to join one of the following areas within the GPSC organization:Ā 

  • Chassis Propulsion StructuresĀ 

  • Interior/ Exterior/ ThermalĀ 

  • Battery, Fuel Cells, & Critical MaterialĀ 

  • Electrical systems, Software and ConnectivityĀ 

  • Indirect Purchasing or OtherĀ 


TheĀ ideal candidateĀ will beĀ comfortable operating autonomously, solving problems independently, and prioritizing tasks that maximize enterprise value for General Motors and the Global Purchasing and Supply Chain (GPSC) function.:Ā 

  • Responsible forĀ maintainingĀ sourcing pipeline, benchmarking data, strategy presentations, global budget, and on-time metricsĀ 

  • Adhere to corporate and departmental purchasing and accounting practices and proceduresĀ 

  • Sourcing and contracting activities that include, but are not limited to:Ā 

  • Sourcing strategy, bid list development & managementĀ Ā 

  • Quote analysis and reviewĀ 

  • Coordination and alignment of RFQ package components, including Terms & Conditions, SOR compliance, technicalĀ documentationĀ and quality alignmentĀ 

  • Leadership sourcing recommendation and alignment with cross-functional teamsĀ 

  • Management of sourcing documentation related to RFQ process in adherence to the GM Audit Services requirementsĀ 

  • Support direct material budget activitiesĀ 

  • Lead/Support supplier relationship management initiatives, including ā€œStrategic Supplier Engagementā€ and nurture relationship with suppliers by acting as a focal point for commercial issue resolutionĀ 

  • Perform change management activitiesĀ 

  • Lead or represent the purchasing function in supplier KPI reviewsĀ 

  • Represent purchasing and support mitigation of supply chain disruptionsĀ 

  • Promote GM’s behaviors and values and makes customer-focused decisionsĀ

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):Ā 

  • 2+ years relevant work experience in purchasing, supply chain, program/product management, logistics or product development (any internship or co-op experience will not be considered)

  • Demonstrates ability to execute with direction or support in the following competencies:Ā 

  • Data Judgement – Competency using automated tools,Ā ability to objectively analyze data and draw meaningful conclusionsĀ 

  • Informative CommunicationĀ - Ability to communicate relevant information to theĀ appropriate audienceĀ both effectively andĀ timelyĀ 

  • Relationship ManagementĀ - Develops andĀ maintainsĀ constructive, cooperative working relationships      

  • At a minimum, has an emerging abilityĀ showcasingĀ understanding of the process and willingness to learn and apply knowledge in the following competencies:Ā 

  • NegotiationĀ - engage in collaborative discussions to reach meaningful agreementsĀ 

  • Analytical ThinkingĀ - ConsiderĀ various factorsĀ in decision making toĀ determineĀ solutions and their impactsĀ 

  • Results FocusĀ - Take charge without prompting, seize opportunities and deliver on timeĀ 

  • Workload ManagementĀ -Ā Manage multiple tasks with quality;Ā prioritize by critical needsĀ 

  • Ability to travel 5-10% Domestically + InternationallyĀ 

  • SAP experience or ability to learn purchasing systemsĀ

What Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):Ā 

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Finance, related fieldĀ 

  • Experience with commoditiesĀ 

  • Cost analysis or manufacturing experienceĀ 

  • Automotive industry experienceĀ 

  • Knowledge of Capacity and Materials ManagementĀ 

  • Capable of drawing conclusions from complex data, marketĀ trendsĀ and the regulatory environmentĀ 

  • Ability to understand basic engineering documents and technical drivers for the applicable commoditiesĀ 

  • Knowledge of contract law as it applies to the purchasing processesĀ
