Position: Transport / Operations / Logistics Manager

Location: Dyce, Aberdeen

Type: Full Time – Permanent

Industry: Same Day & Dedicated Courier / Transport / Logistics

Salary: £32,000 - £42,000 (Dependent on experience).

Reporting to the Managing Director and as Transport Operations Manager, you will be fully responsible for managing the execution of the daily transport plan via delegation of workload to a great team of 6 x employees.

This is a customer-focused role with a requirement to build and maintain strong relationships with our customers who want trusted freight handling and quick and efficient delivery by careful and friendly drivers.

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Fully responsible for the operational logistics of the delivery fleet, including efficiency optimisation and where attention to detail and service are paramount.
  • Managing customers, drivers and contractors direct via phone, email and face to face.
  • Liaising with drivers and managing their workloads, issuing paperwork and ensuring that they are fully aware of their instructions.
  • Promoting and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners, suppliers and clients to ensure the continual development of service and service levels.
  • Responding quickly and ensuring that problems and or difficulties which arise are dealt with promptly and in a professional and business-like manner.
  • Ensuring that all procedures and processes are followed within statutory requirements including the provision and maintenance of a safe working environment.
  • Managing the vehicle maintenance plan.
  • Coordination of breakdown and recovery and investigating any vehicle damage and taking any actions required.
  • Analysing transportation data and generate reports on key performance indicators
  • Staying up-to-date with industry trends and developments in transportation technology
  • Assisting the MD with company growth and identifying business opportunities.

Knowledge and Experience:

Essential:

Good local knowledge of Aberdeen

Positive, friendly attitude and great communication skills

Excellent problem-solving skills; must be able to make quick decisions in a fast-paced environment.

Strong customer service ethic

Strong eye for detail to ensure that customers have a seamless service

Computer literate, including competence with Microsoft Office

Flexible and willing to occasionally be on call to support drivers on out-of-normal-hours jobs

Desirable:

  • Previous experience within a delivery operations/ transport supervisory role
  • A good understanding of fleet compliance across the range of light-goods vehicles
  • Experience of using transport planning & management software


This job is not for the fainthearted - It can be very fast paced at times and requires focus, attention, and a very strong eye for detail. Previous experience in the sector would be viewed favourably but we are willing to train someone with the right attributes.
