Elevation Recruitment Group are delighted to be partnered with Saracen Horse Feeds, handling the search and selection of an Engineering Operations Manager, to join their Aylesford FMCG manufacturing operation.

Saracen is a 5th generation family-owned and managed animal feed manufacturer supplying horse feed to a large UK customer base and 33 international markets in Europe and the Middle East.

Responsibilities for this role will include:

  • To ensure that the production facility and any other areas of responsibility operate in accordance with statutory and company Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Oversight of the manufacturing systems, including programming, processes and planning that ensures optimum production plant availability and efficiency.
  • Plan production plant capital expenditure requirements, present business case and, once approved, oversee implementation of projects.
  • Management of the Preventative Maintenance schedule of all plant and machinery to minimise unplanned shutdown of our production.
  • To be the line manager for the Production Engineer, embedding through team-working a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Working closely with external and sub-contractors to ensure cost-effective maintenance solutions can be provided for planned and emergency works.
  • Budget responsibility for plant repairs & maintenance and capital expenditure to include checking and approving supplier invoices for all production plant related expenditure.
  • Monitor plant energy usage and constantly seek ways to reduce energy consumption in alignment with our goal of reducing environmental impact and achieving net zero emissions.
  • Monitor and report on KPI’s.

Background and required skillset:

  • A strong background within an FMCG manufacturing environment.
  • Engineering Experience essential.
  • Project Management experience essential.
  • Best practice procurement methodology for projects (whether large or small scale) to achieve best value for money for all projects.
  • Degree educated or equivalent industry experience/qualifications.
  • Operation management qualification desirable (e.g. Kaizen, Lean Six Sigma).
  • H&S experience essential, qualifications desirable.
  • An understanding of Formal Quality assurance schemes, ideally the UFAS, BETA NOPS and FEMAS schemes, or other schemes such as ISO or BRC standards.
  • Microsoft Office programmes to a high level, including Pivot Tables.
