Lead Industrial Designer

  • Annual Salary: 45,000 - 55,000 plus bonus

We are seeking a Lead Industrial Designer to join an established consumer leisure goods business that is launching and developing new brands for the UK market. This role offers the opportunity to work internationally and drive the development of new products, branding, and market offerings to expand the business's product portfolio and establish a strong presence within the UK market.



Day-to-day of the role:

  • Lead the innovation and creation of new designs, leveraging an established and effective manufacturing base.
  • Mentor and guide a team of designers across mechanical, electrical, and other industrial design functions.
  • Drive product development from initial concept through to successful manufacturing and delivery.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure user-centric design, utilising innovative materials and technology.
  • Oversee prototype creation, design validation, and ensure compliance within an evolving regulatory framework.
  • Spend time working abroad, including 3 to 4 weeks per year in China with the main manufacturing plant and 2 to 3 weeks per year with other design offices in Europe.


Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • Demonstrable experience in leading product development within the leisure goods sector.
  • A well-presented and creative portfolio showcasing previous work.
  • Experience in user-centric design and working with innovative materials and technology.
  • Proficiency in design software such as SolidWorks, Katia, Rhino, Keyshot, or the Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Educated to Bachelor's or Master's degree level (or equivalent) in Industrial Design or a related field.
  • Knowledge or passion for off-road, rugged, or all-terrain leisure vehicles is advantageous.
  • Inspirational leadership skills with the ability to encourage and develop junior designers.
