Special Educational Needs (SEN) Teaching Assistant - Secondary Special School

Location: Bradford, West Yorkshire

Contract Type: Full-time -Monday-Friday (Temporary, Term Time Only)

Daily Pay Rate: £83-£95 a day

The school are dedicated to providing high-quality education for students with special educational needs. Veritas Education are seeking a passionate and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join the school and make a positive difference in the lives of our students.

Role Overview: As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting the learning and development of secondary-aged students with special educational needs. Working closely with the classroom teachers, you will provide tailored assistance to meet the individual needs of students, helping them to access the curriculum and participate fully in school life.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with special educational needs, including those with autism, learning disabilities, and communication difficulties.
  • Assist classroom teachers in planning and delivering differentiated lessons and activities to accommodate the diverse learning needs of students.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and respected.
  • Follow individual education plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSP).
  • Support students with personal care, mobility, and independence skills as required.
  • Monitor and record student progress and behaviour, providing regular feedback to teachers.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience working with students and/or adults with SEN is essential.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, or special needs support are desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents/carers.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the learning and well-being of students with special educational needs.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to respond to the changing needs of students and the school environment.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

  • Safeguarding training is essential, although this can be offered by Veritas.
  • Level 2 Team Teach training is essential, although this can be offered by Veritas.
  • Candidates must hold or be willing to apply for an enhanced DBS upon registration.
  • Have proof of eligibility to work in the UK.
